FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
The incumbent of this position teaches sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program.
Teachers may be hired with current certification in Middle Grades Social Science 5-9, Social Science 6-12, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum 5-9 or History 6-12, with the understanding that Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing K-12 certification must be completed within a specified period of time. If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.
Teachers may be hired with current state of Florida educator certification in Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing K-12, with the understanding that Middle Grades Social Science 5-9, Social Science 6-12, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum 5-9, OR History 6-12 certification must be completed within a specified period of time. If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.
Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities.
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Advanced proficiency in sign language within one year of hire.
Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills .
Hiring Salary Range: 10-month position (190 Days): $51,371.25 - $55,102.43 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience. Employees shall receive compensation for higher education beyond a bachelor’s degree as noted below.
Master’s Degree: additional $2,400
Master’s +30, or 2nd Master’s Degree, or Education Specialist, or Doctorate Degree: additional $2,400
Employees may earn any combination of degrees and receive that amount. Only one degree in each category will apply.
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 3:30pm
