Job Description

Coaches for Sporting Stripes (2-5 Years Old) and Sporting Stars (5-8 Years Old) are responsible for expanding the early childhood soccer program by leading and assisting in sessions based on the Sporting Stripes curriculum and Sporting Stars curriculum.

Sporting Stripes
Sporting Stripes is a beginner soccer program for toddlers and young children, aged 2-5 years old. This program provides a safe and fun learning environment for your child to become engaged with soccer at its foundation. The Sporting Stripes program is organized and managed by Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City.


Sporting Stars
Sporting Stars is a developmental soccer program for children, 5-8 years old to become students of soccer and help continue their development. Players learn mechanics, technical skills, dribbling and passing. Sporting Stars also focuses on the importance of teamwork and working with others to accomplish a common goal. The Sporting Stars program is organized and managed by Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City.


Essential Functions 

  • Lead in cooperation with the overall strategy and philosophy of play for children ages two to five years old and children ages five to eight, typically in groups of 10 children per class.
  • Ensure proper instruction for children based on their specific program, such as Parent-Child Programs (ages 2-3), Beginner Programs (ages 3-4), Pre-Recreational Programs (ages 4-5), and Sporting Stars programs (ages 5-8).
  • Lead and assist with 50-minute training sessions that are both fun and engaging.
  • Take a child-centered approach in coaching children how to enjoy the game of soccer at its earliest foundation.
  • Emphasize and promote the importance of active and healthy lifestyles.
  • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Nurture individual and team play based on the Sporting Stripes and Sporting Stars curriculum and model of play.
  • Oversee all equipment inventory, care and systematic return at the finish of classes.
  • Maintain professional relationships with parents, instructors, players and sponsors.
  • Represent Sporting Kansas City and its related affiliates in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Skills & Experience 

  • Passion and commitment to child and athlete development.
  • Proven effective leadership, communication and coaching skills, prior experience with early childhood coaching and/or teaching preferred.
  • Possess the knowledge and experience gained from playing soccer or working in early childhood.
  • Proven record in following curriculums and directives.
  • Passion for the game of soccer and Sporting Kansas City team and organization.


Must Haves

  • Reliable form of transportation
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work at one or more of the following locations: The Soccer Lot, Homefield- Olathe, Homefield-KC, Compass Minerals Sporting Fields, Central Bank Sporting Complex, Swope Soccer Village.
