Job Description

Strategic Growth Partners provide both operations & strategic support to tribal 8(a) & commercial organizations. Our client is seeking a Finance & Accounting Manager based in Redwood City, CA. The Finance & Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s day-to[1]day accounting operations, financial reporting, and strategic tax planning. A key part of this role involves managing fund accounting activities, ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations, and optimizing the company’s tax position. This position also requires strong Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) capabilities, focusing on budgeting, forecasting, and providing data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate should possess robust leadership skills, advanced accounting knowledge, in[1]depth expertise in both direct and indirect taxation, and strong analytical acumen for meaningful financial planning and analysis. This is a full time position.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Prepare and review financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual) in compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS, etc.).
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes, and maintain the integrity of financial records.

2. FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis)

  • Lead the annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting processes, coordinating with department heads to gather inputs and assumptions.
  • Develop financial models to project short-term and long-term business
  • performance, and conduct variance analysis against actual results.
  • Monitor KPIs and perform in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and
  • opportunities, providing actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategic plans, resource
  • allocation strategies, and scenario analyses.
  • Present financial results and recommendations to management in a clear, concise manner.

3. Fund Accounting

  • Manage fund accounting processes, including capital calls, distributions, and
  • investor reporting.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of fund performance and allocations, maintaining comprehensive records for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers or investment teams on valuation procedures and investment performance analysis.

4. Tax Planning & Compliance

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the organization’s tax position while ensuring full compliance with local and international tax laws.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of all tax returns (corporate, indirect, withholding taxes, etc.), liaising with external advisors as needed.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes, evaluating their impact on the organization and adjusting tax strategies accordingly.

5. Audit & Regulatory Compliance

  • Coordinate with external auditors, government agencies, and financial institutions during audits, inspections, or reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant financial regulations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.

6. Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor the accounting and finance team, setting clear objectives and evaluating performance.
  • Identify training needs, provide coaching, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and effective communication across the finance function.

7. Strategic Financial Planning

  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on financial strategies, investment decisions, and capital structure.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support business development efforts, analyzing the financial feasibility of new projects or ventures.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions, offering financial forecasts, risk assessments, and scenario analyses.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or
  • CPA/ACCA/CMA/CA qualification preferred).
  • Additional certifications in taxation or specialized finance areas are a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 2–3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Proven track record in tax compliance and planning, including managing complex local or international tax issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in fund accounting (private equity, venture capital, mutual funds, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Solid FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS principles, financial analysis methods, and internal control frameworks.
  • Familiarity with fund structures, investor reporting, and valuation methodologies for fund accounting.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, particularly when liaising with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities, with an emphasis on coaching and conflict resolution.
